What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Collective Leadership is a direct challenge to the individualized model of leadership we have been conditioned to expect and perform.

  • What vulnerabilities might prevent traditional leadership from embracing collective leadership?
  • Why might an individual resist collective leadership?
  • How might an organization prepare itself for the debate/analysis that is required to lead collectively?
  • How might group think be avoided with collective leadership?
  • How might we assure we are being collective versus compliant?
  • What other aspects of collective leadership are you curious about?

Team,

I hope this article add to the thinking about what Collective Leadership is.

All my best,

Mike Woodard, Ph.D.

Great discussion - I was happy to add thoughts about The Five Factors of Leadership.

Here is the gist - : TKI - there are 5 factors related to how decisions are made.  All of them can and should be used. People have to understand when.  The 5 areas are: collaborate, compromise, avoid, compete, or accommodate. For example people avoid situations when collaboration should be the answer.  It's okay to compete when standing your ground is the best.

Thank you - these factors present an actionable framework for making better decisions.
