A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

I loved hearing what THD is doing. What I REALLY need from them though, is a way to reduce my trips to the store from 3+ to just 1. :-)
The mobile devices and learning options at THD are very nice, appear well-designed, and I'm sure are very effective. Love the game approach with the competition factor.
I used to refer to the 70:20:10, Forgetting Curve, and select other popular learning concepts to support what I'm doing, then Will Thalheimer started kicking me around and he's right. Check him out; he's in my LinkedIn list or can be Googled.
Will updated Kirkpatrick's 4 Levels with his Learning Transfer Evaluation Model (LTEM), which I now prefer over the 4 Levels. Brinkerhoff updated Kirkpatrick's model by adding a 5th level; Return on Investment and I appreciate the focus he gave to ROI. Because Brinkerhoff provided input on LTEM, I see ROI fitting into LTEM at Tier 8 even though it isn't clearly specified. I'll ask him about that sometime. The biggest gap I've noticed with the LTEM is, it does not consider performance assurance tools that don't rely on direct training/learning to produce an organizational benefit, instead, they deliver step-by-step instructions which can easily be followed to perfection provided performers have proper & sufficient basic skills. Stay tuned on that, as well.

Will Thalheimer says ROI does fit into Tier 8.
We're now discussing which tier performance assurance would fit. Performance assurance being a system that requires following step-by-step instructions without specific training or learning. If there is no learning, there is no intentional learning transfer, so where would that fit on a Learning Transfer Evaluation Model? (I think a new tier is needed.)
