What Are You Measuring?

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

"Few leaders these days would declare themselves not to be critically reflective."

  • How can you be sure that you are authentically critically reflective?
  • What assumptions are you not willing to reflect upon?
  • What might these assumptions prevent you from learning?
  • What would it take to allow you to temporarily "suspend" these assumptions?
  • What other aspects of "Critical Reflection" are you curious about?

Great questions and I have no clear answers for any of them! We can definitely explore these tomorrow for those interested! 

I know we are only a day away but did anybody watch the bright side video? It is interesting, and ties into self-reflection, but their evalution / results at the end seem kind of off. Basically, fewer As means more selfish, more As means less selfish. But looking at the question, to me, many of the A choices ar *less* selfish. For example, question 9 is "would you rather A) discover a new inhabitable planet or B) invent a drug that cures a deadly disease?" How is A the less selfish choice there? There a few like that,

It does tie into self-reflection - perhaps it also is a matter of perspective and values. It is easy to appear "unselfish" if you "give up" something you not own or do not value.

I can imagine a conversation which would argue the merits of both sides of question 9.
