Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion GLN 2023 - TeachAbout - Activity Based Learning and Applied Improv
"I'm sure that some topics lend themselves to lectures. I must use lectures to introduce concepts to be able to do ABL. Scaling can be thrown into the mix, but as we learned during the pandemic and what I have done with online courses (which are…"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion GLN 2023 - TeachAbout - Activity Based Learning and Applied Improv
"From what I've experienced, ABL is not abundant.  The main pedagogical model is lecture-based for most corporate and higher-learning education. It's not hard to measure the impact of ABL, but you would have to have a control group to…"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion GLN 2023 - TeachAbout - Activity Based Learning and Applied Improv
"There is much research that supports activity based learning as a viable way to teach and learn.  My mentor for this work, Thiagi, did a ton of research at the University of Indiana on learning, what works, and what doesn't work.  The…"

"Paul, you are the catalyst for all of these trusting relationships that have been built.  I think trust is a spot-on focus because it is foundational.  It is a main focus for the folks I work with in the construction industry. …"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion Segment 2 (2022) Open to the Contributions of Others
"One of the things I've done with EI for construction folks is divided the room into two groups.  One group has to come up with all of the reasons why EI is total BS.  The other group has to explain why EI is the best thing ever. …"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion Segment 4 (2022) Support the Growth of Others
"Excellent points!  There are many layers to this issue.  If the culture supports continual learning and growth of the employees, this scenario can be seen in a different light, as you so aptly articulated. Then, if the employee wants the…"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion Segment 4 (2022) Support the Growth of Others
"The key here is supporting what they want to do concerning their growth.  I think too many folks are thrust into roles they aren't comfortable with where bosses impose "stretch goals" that are not likely to be reached.  To…"

Brent Darnell replied to Paul Terlemezian's discussion Segment 2 (2022) Open to the Contributions of Others
"What does it mean to be authentically open?  I think it boils down to being fearless, knowing you will make mistakes, be judged, look foolish, etc and still be willing to be open.  What challenges exist to being authenticity open? …"
