A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. Simulations are not new to L&D. At the very high end (e.g. Airline simulations are applicable in DICE situations. Where I would like to see change is at the low end. Eventually - at both ends - simulations may blend with the real world (through MR and IoT.)
A common usage of low-end simulations are role-plays. I would like to see these replaced by ChatGPT. Role plays have little or no value after the class ends. The use of ChatGPT for role-plays in preparation for real work can have long-lasting positive impact when done well.
