What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

  • Project Title: Georgia SHAPE - Health Training
  • Project Leads:
  • Background:
    • Why they collaborated? Georgia SHAPE's initiative is to improve Georgia's future by providing knowledge to young people on their current health-related fitness levels along with a capacity to develop and implement strategies for personal improvement.  CHOA's initiative is to improve child wellness and bring awareness of the obesity epidemic in Georgia.  They are doing this though a statewide movement called Strong4Life.
    • What was the impact to learning? Students will gain knowledge of overall healthy living and to develop life long healthy habits.
    • What technology was involved? - TBD
  • Moving Forward:
    • Is anyone aware of anything similar to this?
    • What ideas do you have to accelerate the success of this project?
    • What areas can participants help with?
    • What similar projects could be started?

Notes:

Per Trisha Hardy:

  • Families are aware of the obesity problem, but they aren't willing to recognize it in their own home.
  • There is a push to get providers to recognize this and make the family aware of the issue.
  • Insuarance will now allow for nutrition couseling for kids
  • There needs to be change behavior
  • There is not a lack of programs.  Schools are innundated with programs.
  • Technology promises an opportunity to distribute health education efficiently and effectively.

Per Dan Fesperman:

  • We should create a silo around children
  • No one organization can fill all the gaps
  • There is mis-education about proper nutrition

Comments from attendees:

Christi Kay

  • ...people don't know what it means to be healthy.

Anonymous:

  • you can change policy, but there needs to be education supporting it.
