A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Defining the Problem

  • What are leaders experiencing now that leaders have never or rarely experienced before?
  • Who is capable of preparing leaders for what has never been experienced before?
  • How do we know if our leadership development investments are working?
  • Who needs to be accountable for the success of these investments?
  • What industry or discipline is known for great leadership?
  • What are you willing to do to assure that you are a great leader?

During this session we will provide an overview for each of the sessions listed below.

The Plus-BYOL-Plus format includes:

  1. An online discussion group for each topic - managed by moderators
  2. Moderators to stimulate interest in the topic - before, during, and after the event
  3. Topical relevant humor via humorists or video
  4. Panelists who briefly offer their perspective and then learn in a breakout room
  5. "Remarkable" speakers who listen without speaking until the very end when they report on what they learned by reading the online discussions and observing the panelists and breakout rooms.
  6. You  - in any of the above rules and/or via your online engagement via comments.

This link has some recent insight on my bias towards this topic.

  1. What is your leadership mindset - Entrepreneurial, Enabling, Operating?
  2. What type of leader do you prefer to be led by?
  3. How does each leader lead during times of uncertainty?
  4. How might the heroic, victim, or villain perform as a leader in times of uncertainty?
  5. What is common to effective leaders - whether - entrepreneurial, enabling, operating, heroic, victim, or villain?

An 11th response to the survey was received today:

Q1 What are leaders experiencing now that leaders have never or rarely experienced before?

The wave of information and tools leaders have to sort through.

Q2 Who is capable of preparing leaders for what has never been experienced before?

I think a combination of AI and open minded thought leaders.

Q3 How do we know if our leadership development investments are working?

Measure the impact of these efforts on business results (i.e. Workforce Productivity)

Q4 Who needs to be accountable for the success of these investments?

                   Senior Leaders and L&D

Q5 What industry or discipline is known for great leadership?

I have been in four different industries and I can confidently say no industry has the advantage of creating great leaders.

Q6 What are you willing to do to assure that you are a great leader?

Continue to be a student, practitioner and educator of leadership.
