A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Some things to think about as we near our discussion on Thursday:

The definition of proof - noun: proof: 
evidence or argument establishing or helping to establish a fact or the truth of a statement. syn: n. Evidence. demonstration, verification

The definition of unintended consequences: In the social sciences, unintended consequences are outcomes that are not the ones foreseen and intended by a purposeful action.

Is proof always a good thing to have?  What are the intended consequences of proof and what might be the unintended consequences (positive and/or negative)?

Bring your own experiences with you to share with others. 

NOTE:  Kirkpatrick's model was established in the mid-1950s and ROI was added in the early 1990's.  Why do we still struggle with what to do?
