A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

The BDI Bridge Academy is a program focused on providing accessible IT training for people with disabilities. Leveraging the Cisco Networking Academy curriculum. The program is delivered through a public/private partnership that enables the delivery of a globally recognized 20-week program, tuition free, with rich student support and jobs waiting.

During this ReachOutAbout we will collaborate with Jerry Sutton to help the Bobby Dodd Institute find people interested in being enrolled in the Bridge Academy.

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. Session A – 10 minutes – Jerry will present his idea/interests
  3. Session B – 10 minutes – Open Q&A with the group focused on clarification from Jerry
  4. Session C – 10 minutes - Jerry is muted and off-camera as the group talks about what it thinks could be done to address his interests
  5. Session D – 10 Minutes – Jerry returns and leads open conversation about next steps (potentially to include research, online discussion, and another (closure?) meeting

During the conversation, we discussed some of the qualification requirements for acceptance.  The initial requirements are as follows:

  • Verifiable Disability
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 9th Grade Reading & Comprehension
  • 9th Grade Math
  • Interest in IT
