What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

AI impacts on learning content, generative AI versus human created content, what is the current thinking on how much(%) of AI content is acceptable.

Does the answer to the above impact pricing for learning content subscriptions, and if so, how much?

Session Leader: Bill VanCuren

The format of this session will be:

  1. Bill will explain what he wishes to learn about - and why.
  2. He will ask each of you why you attended - to learn? to teach? something else?
  3. He will then guide the session around what he is willing to learn from you.

Topic: GLN 2023 - Pricing - AI Learning Content

AI is a tool, not a replacement for experience and wisdom. Universities are rapidly declining because they refuse to adapt and decrease the cost for the limited education they provide. AI will enhance learning, especially self-guided learning.  Micro-degrees and job specific skills are needed more and more because information and specialties are growing. But just like a calculator and computer everyone will need to know how to use AI to assist them in their job.

Large Language models are just huge databases of sentences with little context. There is little to no "intelligence", just a series of sentences input and output based on questions. I would argue there is zero creativity or understanding. Great for finding facts. but not for questions that need context to answer.

Good tool to write first drafts but filled with errors too. AI is good to create lists, summarize, create outlines to guide but the fake expert will be outed quickly due to the lack of understanding of the content and their inability to see the errors.

Constant learning is no longer optional for people. It is a requirement. In the 1950s to 1980s people had one career. After that it became two or three. Now it is likely to be a series of many different jobs and roles that evolve and require constant learning.
