A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

This concept is a follow up to the SuperNova ReachOutAbout conducted at Georgia LEARNS 2025.
Recently, I read, heard, dreamed, or made up that it is difficult for people in their 70's, 80's, or older to become hired for their talents. I decided that it is our fault if this happens to us - and that we would be better off acting our age...and I thought of three things we could do at this age that makes us quite valuable and that could not be done as well by someone younger than us.
As a result of this thinking, I am recruiting a team of Supernova's willing to do this work. I am eager for your help to turn this "dream" into a reality!
This session will apply the GLN Insights approach.
You are invited to provide insights on the SuperNova concept by:

During this session we will review the survey responses and answer questions related to sessions that you may wish to lead.
A summary of what was learned during the conference will be offered.

This is definitely a phenomenon worth exploring and a real prejudice.
The decades of experience should outweigh any negatives, but that is not how younger hiring executives view this. They may assume lack of technological expertise, energy, long-term availability, etc.
Given the need for mentoring, strategic thinking with long experience in economic and product cycles, and the general need for senior leadership wisdom, you would think the opposite would be true. Of course, senior people must now be savvy in AI too, as it is a very significant productivity tool for most white-collar jobs now.
I believe asking the right questions is far more important than knowing all the answers, and can also bring outside perspective that gets around the internal biases.
Here is some actual data:
Thank you, Bob,
Age bias is not the battle I wish to fight. It is an important battle - just not the one that I am choosing to consider with the SuperNova perspective.
I wish to shift the "battlefield" to one where a small group of SuperNovas have a unique advantage only available to those who meet the three criteria that have been offered.
With appreciation of the importance of battling age bias.
Thank you to Neill, Peggy, Bob, Steve, Bob, and Larry for being part of the conversation today.
You are seeking clarification which I will provide in the Post-Conference session:
