What Are You Measuring?

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Thank you.

I have chosen (with appreciation of Jim Bird) to frame life as similar to the process of assembling a jigsaw puzzle The framing however has three differences to the traditional methods of assembling a puzzle:

  1. There is no picture to look at to guide me
  2. There are no edge pieces as boundaries (to limit or protect me)
  3. The puzzle is assembled dynamically as each piece is understood and allowed to evolve and eventually determine whether or not to be part of the picture (i.e, my life)....

I have also chosen (with indirect guidance from Jim) to have a central focus with my life - spirituality, which is demonstrated by my choice to assemble the puzzle with three concepts in mind:

  1. Authenticity (for which I am accountable to God)
  2. Vulnerability (for which I appreciate the ability to learn from the life of Jesus)
  3. Curiosity (for which I seek to create a spirit within me that allows curiosity to thrive)

My relationship with John has resulted in his influence on my life being evident in many ways and now perhaps permanently via "Citizen Can." It will help me "stay on course" as I:

  1. Learn that there are matters I may be attracted to and yet from which I must Authentically abstain.
  2. There are other areas where I am Vulnerable - much like the way that cancer impacts the cells of our being. And similar to cancer I will consider changes in lifestyle, prescriptive solutions, or radical surgery.
  3. Finally, the spirit of Curiosity will thrive as I focus on "Love and the Golden Rule."
