What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Hello everyone, on November 7th I want to explore what "proof" means. Who... needs what... to have something proven to them?

It's easy to think it's just about the statistics: x number of people have shown x amount of measurable improvement as a result of a learning program. That proves it works... right?

But is that enough? Is it enough for all of the people you need buy-in from?

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks Greg - I think Mark Twain had some memorable insights regarding statistics.

I read an interesting article titled "Why Facts Don't Matter." I will be interested to hear what others think - before - during and after you segment of Georgia LEARNS.

Paul - yes indeed Mark Twain had some pretty strong words on this topic.

Thank you so much for the reference to the article!

Greg - I look forward to your segment.  The word "proof" has such power from the pudding to a bottle of rum. It will be good to hear your thoughts on its meaning in the learning space.

Thank you, Donna - I look forward to interacting with you on Thursday, and exploring this topic further together!
