I asked Google/Bard what Mike might need to know. It responded:

  • Identify your grant niche: Clearly define your areas of expertise and research interests. This will help you narrow down your search for relevant grants and target your proposals effectively.

  • Research and understand funding sources: Conduct thorough research to identify potential grantors aligned with your research interests. Explore government agencies, foundations, private organizations, and academic institutions that offer grants in your field.

  • Thoroughly review grant guidelines: Carefully read and understand the specific requirements and expectations of each grant you consider applying for. Pay close attention to eligibility criteria, proposal formats, deadlines, and submission procedures.

  • Craft compelling proposals: Write clear, concise, and persuasive proposals that highlight the significance of your research, the potential impact of your findings, and your qualifications and experience. Use strong storytelling and data to support your arguments.

  • Build relationships with potential funders:

Then I asked it for examples of niches. It provided:

1. Innovation in Leadership Education: This niche focuses on developing innovative approaches to leadership education, such as incorporating technology, experiential learning, or global perspectives into the curriculum. Grants in this area may support the development of new leadership programs, research on effective leadership pedagogy, or initiatives to train future leaders in various sectors.

2. Ethical Leadership and Social Responsibility: This niche encourages teaching and research on ethical leadership practices and their impact on social responsibility. Grants may support projects that promote ethical decision-making, foster corporate social responsibility, or address social issues through leadership initiatives.

3. Leadership Development for Diverse Populations: This niche focuses on developing leadership skills and opportunities for individuals from underrepresented groups. Grants in this area may support workshops, mentorship programs, or research on leadership development in diverse settings.

4. Leadership for Sustainability and Social Impact: This niche promotes leadership roles in creating sustainable and socially impactful organizations. Grants may support research on sustainable leadership practices, initiatives to integrate sustainability into business models, or programs that empower leaders to address social challenges.

5. Leadership in Emerging Technologies: This niche examines the role of leadership in navigating the rapidly evolving landscape of technology. Grants may support research on technology's impact on leadership, training programs for tech-savvy leaders, or projects that foster ethical and responsible use of technology in organizations.

Then I asked for the top 5 providers of grants related to ethical leadership. It provided:

  • John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation: The MacArthur Foundation is a private, non-profit grantmaking institution that supports innovative initiatives in education, environment, global issues, justice, and peace. They have funded several projects on ethical leadership, including the Aspen Global Leadership Initiative, which promotes ethical leadership and civic engagement around the world.
