What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Hypothesis: We will continue to waste and/or invest time and money trying to prove mass adoption of MR until the business case is so evident - that it is not needed - it will be DOA.

Participants in this session may also be interested in ExperienceAbout - Immersive Learning

Session Leader: Paul Terlemezian

The format of this session will be:

  1. Presentation of the hypothesis - a proposition made as a basis for reasoning without any assumption of its truth.
  2. With the presenter off-camera and muted the participants will share perspectives that align with the hypothesis - where do they agree with the presenter?
  3. The presenter will then offer counter-arguments to the hypothesis
  4. With the presenter off-camera and muted the participants will suggest actions intended to validate or invalidate the hypothesis.
  5. The presenter returns and offers suggestions for further conversation and action.

Topic: GLN 2023 - HypothesisAbout - MR Busines Case - DOA

The hypothesis is based on "bias" that was initially fed by Treacy and Wiersema's -"Discipline of Market Leaders." A few years later, I was influenced by Kevin Maney's - "Trade-off" and Howard Stevens - "Selling the Wheel."

Geoffrey Moore's - "Crossing the Chasm" and "Inside the Tornado" offer roadmaps for the impatient entrepreneur who wishes to challenge the paradoxical assertions of the other authors.

"Blue Ocean Strategy," "Leapfrogging," and "Risky is the New Safe" have provided fuel for the entrepreneur.

The ALO was designed with our "Industry" in mind and leverages the simultaneous blend of these approaches while emphasizing Business Models and Simplification.

Paul, what is "MR"?

Why did software become free, open, and in the "Cloud?"

How might learning be free, open, and in the "Cloud?"

My takeaway from this session was that we achieve "DOA" when:

  1. As easy as sunglasses
  2. Price is lower
  3. Content is available (the "killer" app)
  4. Generational matters are leveraged
  5. MR is integrated (TBD)

The "Grandparents" Project was proposed.
