What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 2 Comments

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Session Leaders: Larry Rothman and Paul Terlemezian

The purpose of the GLN SomethingAbout is to discover new ideas via a small group conversation format that would leverage the potential energy created by differing perspectives. Here is the format

  1. Offer a public conversation stimulated by the curated work of the Daily Drucker for the date of the conversation (this offers some level or randomness and objectivity.) Daily Drucker October 27 Political Integration of Knowledge Workers.
  2. Two session leaders would each invite two or three people that know the one that invited them well and probably do not know much about the other one.
  3. The two session leaders engage in a 5–10-minute open conversation on the Drucker topic.
  4. The session leaders go to a separate breakout room to listen to the those who wish to learn more from them and/or influence their perspective. Invitees may go to either room and move between rooms.
  5. When the breakout rooms close – everyone returns to the main room, and the session leaders summarize what they learned by listening in the breakout.
  6. The conversation closes with each participant being offered the opportunity to state what they learned and what they are committed to do SomethingAbout.
  7. The session leaders and invitees convene in a follow up meeting to propose what to do next/

HAPPE (Larry Rothman) and Georgia LEARNS Now (Paul Terlemezian) were introduced to each other by Jerry Sutton. We have been meeting regularly for nearly three years and attempting to collaborate to find a driver for HAAPE in Atlanta. HAAPE focuses on gaining employment for adults with autism. Georgia LEARNS focuses on creating collaborations that solve problems.

Our conversations have succeeded in building relationship and trust between Larry and Paul. We wish to extend our relationship to the third level of the Georgia LEARNS experiment - leveraging differing perspectives.  Larry and Paul will share their differing perspectives and learn from your engagement.

What is different know than in previous generations regarding the employment of adults with autism? What aspects of an ecosystem to support adults with autism as knowledge workers are necessary? How does Drucker's premise apply?
