What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Topic: HAAPE is a well-established entity. It wishes to establish a presence within Georgia in general and within Atlanta specifically. It favors an approach of finding an individual to drive this presence.

GLN LearnAbout Format:

  1. An initial learner that is interested in learning more about this matter will lead the session.
  2. The learner will begin the session by offering what they wish to learn about and why.
  3. Participants will be asked to introduce themselves and briefly describe why they chose to attend (to learn, offer advice, both, other?)
  4. If there is sufficient interest, a follow up session will be scheduled. Each follow up will be led by someone other than the leader of the current session.
  5. Eventually these sessions will end, or possibly result in a Georgia LEARNS DoAbout (a team of people committed to accomplish a project defined by those who choose to do so.)

Initial Learner: Paul Terlemezian

What Paul wishes to learn about this topic?

  • What do others perceive as the need? Is a leader needed?
  • What might motivate that leader?
  • How do we find that leader?
  • How might the Georgia LEARNS Community support that leader?

Why Paul wishes to learn about this topic:

  • It will allow the Georgia LEARNS community to apply the ALO to address a complex matter related to learning and employment. The ALO and its derivatives will improve as a by-product
  • New and existing relationships/collaborations within the Georgia LEARNS Community may flourish as they consider integration with HAAPE.
  • Success for HAAPE will advance the Georgia LEARNS commitment to "A Different Plan."

Here are the Zoom details for participating in this session:

Thank you to Larry, Lynda, Eric, and Allen for attending today:

Here is what I learned:

1. Consider the stages of Life of the autistic individual a) 0-22; b) 22 to death of parent; c) post death of parent

2. Consider the bottom third of the autistic community

3. Is there consensus on where there is a gap?

4. Might someone with a personal stake be willing to be the leader of this effort - without compensation - and therefore focused on collaboration/integration vs. "ownership"

As a follow up - I will be meeting with Larry tomorrow (June 3rd to review what I have learned.) I will also be meeting with:

  • Goodwill of North Georgia on June 3rd
  • GA Neurodiverse Chamber of Commerce on June 6th
  • City of Refuge on June 19th
  • Bobby Dodd Institute on July 23rd
  • Marcus Autism Center (not yet responded to my outreach)

Who else might I meet with to help me learn?

What other questions or comments do you have?
