What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Is humble inquiry real or imagined?

Is it desirable? If so - when? If not - why?

Session Leader: Paul Terlemezian

The HiddenAbout is new to Georgia LEARNS format that will be used in this session for the first time.

Here is a description of the format:

  1. 5 minutes for introductions
  2. A topic is presented for consideration/conversation/clarification
  3. A poll or series of questions are offered for self reflection
  4. Participants are asked to intentionally create cognitive dissonance by considering the potential of separating what they want to have from what they believe is possible to have.
  5. As a result of this and upon reflection - what fears are discovered that might have been hidden.
  6. The closing conversation is intended to inspire individual or group action

During this session the format will be applied as follows:

Topic: Is it important to remove bias from data analysis? Is it desirable? If so - when? If not - why?

1. Self Reflection:

Is it possible to remove bias from data analysis?

Do you want it to be possible?

2. Cognitive Dissonance: Consider variations to your self-reflection until you find one that is most difficult to accept:

  • yes, yes
  • yes, no
  • no, yes
  • no, no

3. Reflection: What fears, concerns, challenges emerged?

4. Closing Conversation:  What alternatives exist? Will you volunteer to find out?

Paul Terlemezian is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.
