Georgia LEARNS 2022

Georgia LEARNS 2022 – Creating Curiosity Capacity

Georgia LEARNS 2022 – Will be Conversations and Projects featuring you and inspired by "Learning as a Way of Leading" (Preskill and Brookfield.) Our theme will be focused on Creating Curiosity Capacity.

On November 9, 10, and 11 there will be a series of nine Plus-BYOL-Plus Segments.

On November 12, 13, 14, and 15 – for our first time - there will be project-related sessions (hybrid) that you may lead or be invited to attend.

Plus -BYOL-Plus Definition: BYOL – The Bring Your Own Learning panel format was used for the first time by Georgia LEARNS in 2015.

  • Panelists have up to two minutes (30 seconds would be fine) to inspire curiosity and reference the format they will use (LearnAbout, TeachAbout, ReachoutAbout, CuriousAbout, AnotherAbout) in their breakout room (30-35 minutes.)
  • In 2016, BYOL was improved by concluding each segment with the “Plus” - a 5-to-10-minute closing presentation by a Remarkable” Speaker/Listener (thank you Michelle Prince) who will describe what they learned from the panelists and breakouts. This year I will ask for emphasis on what they heard that inspired their curiosity.
  • In 2021 we began each segment with another “Plus” – a 10-15-minute use of Relevant Humor by self-proclaimed Humorists to stimulate the conversations that will follow. We chose to continue with the role of a Humorist in 2022 because we believe that humor can inspire curiosity and curiosity can inspire trust.
  • Critical to the success of the panel is the Moderator who:
    • Performs all the roles of a typical moderator - before the event through the online discussion. This includes asking questions of panelists and participants.
      • The participants may or may not be connected to the panel.
      • The participants may or may not be part of the conference.
    • Moves between breakout rooms during the segment as an engaged participant and to assist the panelists if needed.
    • Monitors the online discussions and encourages engaged participants to submit their ideas into it.
  • Engaged Participants play the most important role in the success of this conference. Specifically, your:
    • Willingness to read and comment in the online discussions - before, during and after the conference provides perpetual value to everyone - especially you.
    • Selection of which segments to attend helps us determine the relevance of the agenda.
    • Willingness to leave a breakout room if the conversation is not providing the expected value is important feedback to the panelist - and 100% aligned with the expectations of Georgia LEARNS!!!
    • Curiosity – respectfully ask questions - especially if you do not agree or understand the perspective of the Panelist – this will create curiosity capacity for yourself and other Engaged Participants, Humorists, Panelists, Moderators - and Remarkable Speakers!
  • In 2022 we are encouraging Project Leaders to convene anywhere at any time from November 12th through 15th a two-hour event (Physical preferred) for the purpose of accelerating a defined project. Please consider:
    • Intentionally and clearly defining a component of your project that assures trust.
    • Stimulating interest in your project prior to the conference via the online discussion created for your project (links below)
    • Applying what you learned during the conference to your project (especially curiosity.)
    • Inviting (or accepting requests from) conference participants to be part of your project.
    • Using the online discussion to provide relevant updates – well into the future.
