What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Can we each take a school and champion Lutzie-43 event for that school (such as one our family or friends are associated with?)

The Lutzie-43 Safe Driving Habit-Builder has been initiated in collaboration with Georgia Learns and is now hosted on our platform, with proceeds going to Lutzie-43.

Learn.net would like to match corporate buyers of the Safe Driving Habit-Builder with student drivers on a one-for-one basis: subscribe 1,000 employee drivers, sponsor 1,000 student drivers.  What do you think?

We talked about evidence and data, so here are some insights for the pilot so far for the Safe Driving Habit-Builder.  We will add all the quiz question contributors this week, so more data will come!

Steph - thank you for posting these attachments. It is important for us to be collecting data and to be open to discovering what can be discerned!

Meeting Summary - January 5, 2023

Participants:

  • Jody Alderman
  • Richard Fletcher
  • Stephanie Crowe
  • Jerry Sutton
  • Paul Terlemezian

We welcomed Richard to our group and to this conversation.

Steph facilitated our conversation regarding the potential for Eterna to be used as an approach to impact the driving habits of drivers between the ages of 16-22. She asked:

  1. What might motivate a 16-22 year-old to be interested?
  2. How might the costs of the initiative be covered?
  • Jerry offered- we are not the right ones to answer the first question - let's ask those in that age group.
  • Steph suggested that the costs would be $1 per person

We talked about the pros and cons of:

  1. A state-wide program focused on every driver between the ages of 16-22
  2. Focusing on the driving performance of this age group vs. the Eterna results
  3. Approaching this incrementally - for example - piloting it with 9 schools - 3 with excellent safety, 3 with average, and 3 of the lowest safety. Learning from the pilot(s) and expanding across the state.
  4. Including other aspects of the program to assure its success - for example - student involvement (by writing the questions) or competition (based on driving safety) and peer recognition (video message from student body leaders of the schools with the best safety.)

Top Golf / Lutzie43 Team,

I was reflecting on our meeting last week, and Paul's challenge, to get to every driver in Georgia, aligned with Mike's goal of ending distracted driving in Georgia.  I feel this is a worthy goal, and a stretch goal that will demand our best thinking, which is why I like it.  See next reflection to push this further ...

I was also thinking about Paul's 'Whatif' reflection - what if we get to every Georgia driver, and deaths still go up?  There are many other factors that do, and will, impact driver deaths. But we can focus on the ones that are due to people getting over their bad habits of distracted driving.  So, a better measure would be 'Georgia has the lowest vehicular death rate in the country' - in part due to Lutzie43.  The inclusion of other states as comparisons would resolve other factors impacting the rates.

Finally, perhaps our big goal can be:  Georgia is the 'safest driver state' or Georgia has the 'lowest distracted driver' problem in the country.  Feel free to hop in with better word-smithing here, but clarity in this goal, and having a big goal, I think pulls us forward to do our best work.  Thanks team!
