What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

What is the relevance of ChatGPT to Workplace Learning?

ChatGPT can be used in workplace learning in several ways:

  1. Employee training: ChatGPT can be used to create interactive training modules that can help employees learn new skills or knowledge in a conversational manner.

  2. FAQ chatbot: ChatGPT can be used to create an AI-powered chatbot that can assist employees with common questions, freeing up time for HR or support teams.

  3. Knowledge management: ChatGPT can be used to create a centralized repository of information for employees to access, helping to ensure that everyone has access to the latest and most accurate information.

  4. Performance support: ChatGPT can be used to provide on-demand, context-sensitive support to employees as they perform their tasks, helping to improve their productivity and job satisfaction.

    2. who is again muted and off-camera
  4. Facilitated conversation including the expert

    2. who may pose questions of their own!

To prepare us for the conversation on 14 February - I asked ChatGPT:

What are the most common misconceptions about ChatGPT

Here are some of the most common misconceptions about ChatGPT:

  1. ChatGPT is sentient or has consciousness: ChatGPT is an AI model developed by OpenAI and does not have feelings, thoughts or consciousness. It is an advanced natural language processing algorithm designed to generate human-like text.

  2. ChatGPT can understand and retain information: Although ChatGPT has been trained on a large corpus of text, it doesn't actually "understand" the text in the same way that humans do. Instead, it uses patterns in the data it was trained on to generate new text.

  3. ChatGPT can perform any task: While ChatGPT is highly capable in terms of language processing, it has limitations and cannot perform tasks that are outside the scope of its training data. For example, it cannot perform mathematical calculations or access the internet to provide real-time information.

  4. ChatGPT is always accurate: ChatGPT was trained on a large corpus of text, which includes both factual information and inaccuracies. While it does its best to generate accurate information, it's important to verify any information provided by ChatGPT before using it.

  5. ChatGPT is biased: Like any machine learning model, ChatGPT has been trained on a dataset that reflects the biases and perspectives of its creators and the sources of the training data. This can result in biased outputs, and it's important to be aware of these biases when using ChatGPT.
