A concept documented in "Good to Great" by Jim Collins offered that greatness was achieved in many instances where leaders decided "who would be on the bus and then let those on the bus decide where the bus would go."
The purpose of the GLN SomethingAbout is to experiment with a small group conversation format that would leverage the potential documented by Jim Collins. Here are the components of the format:
Offer a public conversation stimulated by the curated work of the Daily Drucker for the date of the conversation (this offers some level or randomness and objectivity.)
Two session leaders would each invite two or three people that know the one that invited them well and probably do not know much about the other one.
The two session leaders engage in a 5–10-minute open conversation on the Drucker topic.
The session leaders go to a separate breakout room to listen to the those who wish to learn more from them and/or influence their perspective. Invitees may go to either room and move between rooms.
When the breakout rooms close – everyone returns to the main room, and the session leaders summarize what they learned by listening in the breakout.
The conversation closes with each participant being offered the opportunity to state what they learned and what they are committed to do SomethingAbout.
The session leaders and invitees convene in a follow up meeting to propose where the "bus might go."
Higher Score Strategies (Mike Blake) and Georgia LEARNS Now (Paul Terlemezian) have established a monthly meeting routine that has resulted in strengthening a personal relationship and nurturing a professional relationship. Mike has agreed to meet with Paul to review the SomethingAbout Format.
Each of us may invite others to participate. We expect to refine the format and schedule SomethingAbouts during the first quarter of 2026.
