Hello, Georgia Learns Community!

I’m new here. I’m a Learning and Development professional with over 15 years of experience in the field. I learned about this community from Paul T. who’s my mentor in the Association for Talent Development mentoring program. If you have a few minutes, I’d like to pick your brain about people management roles. I’m preparing to transition to my first people leader role in the next year.

I'd love to hear about your experiences. Here are my questions:

How did you get your first role as a people manager?

What did you learn from the process of becoming a people manager including what you might’ve learned from any attempts prior to the successful one?

Do you have any advice on how to get the “first role” as a people manager outside of the company where one is currently working?

Thanks!

There are numerous online training and educational tools on the market for a myriad of topics. How do you know you are choosing the right one? Are there evaluation tools you use to evaluate this training? Are you likely to purchase training that has a credential associated with it? What deterrents will make you less likely to continue to use pre-packaged training? Are you likely to have the content producers customize the training? Do you conduct an ROI on purchased training?

What does an eLearning Marketplace of the future look like? With more training going to an online model, how do you envision purchasing, distributing, and measuring learner outcomes? What features are you looking for in such a marketplace? What do you anticipate learning will look like? What levels of interactivity/feedback/assessment outcomes do you expect?

There are multiple forces at work maximizing sales, including the individual sales rep's motivation and skill, the sales mgmt compensation, and the company performance. Sales are typically compensated on their individual contribution, neither benefiting or suffering from the company performance and change to the reputation.
