Segment 2(17) – Challenging our Own Thinking (Is it possible?)

As Learning Leaders it is our professional commitment to challenge the thinking of others.

  • Who do we allow to challenge our own thinking?
  • How do we challenge ourselves to change who we allow ourselves to be challenged by?
  • Do you have a commitment and a process that sustains challenges to our thinking?

Georgia LEARNS 2015 was focused on Challenging our Own Thinking

Georgia LEARNS 2016 challenged us to Crowd Design solutions to Impossible Problems. One of the methods we used was the Blue Ocean Strategy Thinking Model.

The Accountable Learning Organization model uses the Blue Ocean Strategy thinking model to challenge executives to think more effectively about the problem to be solved (in business terms) before we begin to invest in the training "solution."

Each panelist will be asked to respond to how Blue Ocean Thinking relates to their application of the Accountable Learning Model to a current problem (one of the 10 defined on 2016 or a different one of their choice.)

My understanding of Blue Ocean Strategy is simplified by asking these 5 questions:

  1. What do your clients value?
  2. What do we stop doing?
  3. What do we diminish?
  4. What do we do more of?
  5. What do we do that’s never been done before?

Thank you Karen Loch for introducing me to Dr. Timothy Renick. It is fascinating to see the results being realized by Georgia State because they were willing to Challenge their Own Thinking. This video is worth watching in its entirety - at the 4:11 mark - the question is posed "Are we the problem?"
