A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Simplification can be viewed in economic terms and cost/benefit terms. Simpler usually is cheaper, but where is the optimal tradeoff between simple/cheaper and less simple/more information and functionality

Which is simpler - making a phone call or sending smoke signals? Has it always been this way? Which is cheaper? Which is more effective?

What is at risk of becoming a modern day smoke signal? (mass distribution of emails?) (three-day training conferences?)

When so many folks are invested in complexity for revenue, how do we change to simplicity?  

I look forward to another thought provoking conversation.
