What Are You Measuring?

Posted by Bill Crose on September 13, 2019 at 11:33am 1 Comment

A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Jerry Sutton (Focal Point) is implementing a program that will help those with differing learning abilities to be prepared for a career as cyber security specialists.

As part of this effort he is seeking case studies or scenarios that could be used to help evaluate interest and potentially motivate participation in the program.

This “ReachoutAbout” is offered to professionals in the Georgia LEARNS community and invited guests to learn from their thoughts on how Jerry might address his need.

Paul Terlemezian(Facilitator) will guide the session.

ReachoutAbout Format

  1. Welcome and introductions
  2. Session A – 10 minutes – Jerry will present his idea/interests
  3. Session B – 10 minutes – Open Q&A with the group focused on clarification from Jerry
  4. Session C – 10 minutes - Jerry is muted and off-camera as the group talks about what it thinks could be done to address his interests
  5. Session D – 10 Minutes – Jerry returns and leads open conversation about next steps (potentially to include research, online discussion, and another (closure?) meeting.)

Paul,

Thank you for your support of this initiative.  We are hoping to arrive at a tool that we can use to help measure interest, attitude, and aptitude in the IT space for potential students seeking the Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) Certification.  The case studies we hope to identify can focus on entry-level networking or the prevention of cybersecurity attacks.  We are more interested in gaining insight into a potential student's ability to problem-solve or extrapolate relevant information from a case study, instead of identifying a singular solution.

I'll look forward to our conversations!

Best, Jerry

Jerry, you are welcome - the additional detail you have provided is quite beneficial!
