A lifetime ago, my training department colleagues and I were satisfied with training data. We cranked out the requested ILT programs plus the "flavor of the year" content, we kept a busy training schedule, and made sure the coffee was always the right temperature. When accused of not delivering effective training because the learners didn't perform as they were trained, we took refuge in our management support role and not ultimately responsible or accountable for LEARNING or productivity.…

Simulations are not new to L&D. At the very high end (e.g. Airline simulations are applicable in DICE situations. Where I would like to see change is at the low end. Eventually - at both ends - simulations may blend with the real world (through MR and IoT.)
A common usage of low-end simulations are role-plays. I would like to see these replaced by ChatGPT. Role plays have little or no value after the class ends. The use of ChatGPT for role-plays in preparation for real work can have long-lasting positive impact when done well.
